General Colin Powell was the chairman of the joint chiefs, a National Security Advisor, and Secretary of State under George W. Bush, a staunch Republican, has known John McCain for 25 years, and he even donated money to the McCain campaign.

You can read the transcript of the interview but here are some interesting things to look for when reading it:

  • Powell finds McCain doesn’t have a complete grasp of the economic problem as indicated by varying solutions offered almost every day.
  • Powell believes that Palin is not ready to be President and questions McCain judgment on his decision for VP.
  • Powell believes that McCain’s campaign of trying to discredit Obama for alleged ties to Ayers are tainted and inappropriate.
  • Powell is troubled by the GOPs claims that Obama is a Muslim and reinforces the fact that Obama is a Christian, but further says, “what if he is?”

For my money, the best part of the whole interview is this quote:

he (Obama) has met the standard of being a successful president, being an exceptional president. I think he is a transformational figure. He is a new generation coming into the world–onto the world stage, onto the American stage, and for that reason I’ll be voting for Senator Barack Obama.

I can already hear the snide remarks now… “That’s because he’s black” or “Of course he would”.

Of course we won’t hear those comment until tomorrow. It is Sunday after all which means most of the racist inbreeders are occupied with the NASCAR race.

UPDATE:  Case and point…  Palin’s husband visits NASCAR race

It’s seems pretty rare these days that I give props to Republican politicians, but the greatest band ever, the Eagles, did reunite in 1994 which only proves that Hell is in fact capable of freezing over. Kudos to Senator Hagel for calling it like it is… idiotic (my words; not his).

In an interview with the Omaha World-Herald, Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel (R) suggested that Palin doesn’t have the foreign-policy experience to be president. “‘She doesn’t have any foreign policy credentials,’ Hagel said in an interview. ‘You get a passport for the first time in your life last year? I mean, I don’t know what you can say. You can’t say anything.'”

Check out this other Hagel line: “‘I think they ought to be just honest about it and stop the nonsense about, “I look out my window and I see Russia and so therefore I know something about Russia,”‘ he said. ‘That kind of thing is insulting to the American people.'”

And this one: “‘I think it’s a stretch to, in any way, to say that she’s got the experience to be president of the United States,’ Hagel said.”

Thanks to MSNBC for pointing me towards this little gem since my subscription to the Omaha-World Herald was rather abruptly canceled. Something about “two dollars”?
